Just thought I'd drop by and say a few kind words... I still remember this little bitty site on Geocities called "Cyberpump", and how I ended up being the 50,000th viewer of it after checking it out for a few weeks... and now it's a ".com" and I'm the 1,566,833rd viewer... congratulations on keeping up on the best fitness site on the web. I, unfortunately, got completely derailed from my training way back when...but now that I've started it back up again, my old electronic training partner that kept giving me all the primo advice and excellent articles is still around, and even more informative than before... sheesh, even my little rant/reply to Dr. Squat's article is still up there... Just wanted to commend you guys on doing a great job. And if you ever need another rant, I'll be glad to offer one up... Princeton must be the only place in the Ivy League that has any intensity, because they sure don't have it here at Yale! It never fails -- as I'm barely crawling down the steps from the gym, four or five guys I saw doing their "strength training" (a.k.a. talking to people while working out on the machines and then hogging the machines after they finish) jog right past me feeling all "energized" right after their workout...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but does anyone else feel that a productive "strength training" workout should end with you feeling like you got hit by a freight train?
Keep up the good work,
Max
Love the sight!! Lots of great info!!
I was reading some stuff you have on your site knocking BFS. I follow the BFS program and have done well with it. I might add, the Utah Jazz have had the lowest injury rate among all teams for many years. That's outstanding to say the least! If you do any exercise wrong, your bound to have problems. I stay away from the power clean, since I don't have a watchful eye over me.
I was wondering if you have heard of the "Super Cat"? It's a machine for increasing the vertical jump. I have one, and like it very much. I called up Greg Sheapard about 2 years ago telling him I was doing my squats with the Super Cat. He said I was waisting my time. What do you think? I like to squat with the free bar & also use the Super Cat.
From what I read, Dr. Ken likes machines. Though, this one I'm talking about you use in a explosive manner. Anyways, I would like your thoughts. Thank you for your time. I plan on buying a shirt soon. You still have them, right?
Dean
P.S. I'll send a picture of the Super Cat in case you haven't seen it before. It's made by Powernetics.
[editor's note: We don't sell anything. But, PDA has the shirts if you want one.]
Dear Cyberpump,
You guys are great. I have been training for 19 years and I am a loyal follower of HIT. I have tried every training method known to mankind and I have found HIT to be the best. I have spread the word about HIT to my friends who also have tried the (muscle comic) champ routines with no results. Keep up the good work.
I just wanted to leave a little note to express my sympathy for having to deal with these jokers. Not really! I enjoy all your articles, they have a message to send and they do it in a way that entertains me. I visit to your site quite often and refer my friends to do the same. I work at a hospital based Health and Wellness Center in Cincinnati. I first started just working the front desk (mainly just to get a free membership) but I have grown to love the place and now working as a personal trainer. I have much to learn and these gentlemen ( I am using that term pretty loosely) have great articles and insight. I am 24 years wise average build 6' 190lbs approx. 15% bf. I love to compete so I stay active in triathlons, soccer, basketball, and many others.
I just came back from India after a four month stay. My intentions were to get a little piece of mind and practice meditation. Since I was staying with a Swamy that was pretty easy. I didn't get to work out over there like I wanted but I am making significant headway with some of your example workouts. I don't know how much is attributed to regaining what is lost but it really doesn't matter either. I can 't believe these guys actually get a whole Gummy Bear for some of this stuff!! Just kidding! Once again thank you for your dedication your efforts don't go unnoticed! Mr. Editor, Please share this with anyone who you feel could benefit. Thank You!

I am pleased to see Cheryl and Gunnar in the Q&A columns. I think it's fantastic that there is a specific section for women to submit inquires. Sites like Cyberpump, NaturalStrength etc... have definitley helped in getting women to understand the benefits of"real" training. Although such a small % of the main stream population actually absorbs and understands how beneficial functional strength training is, getting one person to make the switch is worth it!
Keep up the good work, I will be visiting often.

[editor's note: This came in through Gunnar's KIS Q&A, but I thought it should go here.]
Hello Gunnar,
I really enjoy your column and just wanted to tell you about my recent weight lifting experiences.
I lifted about 10 years ago faithfully, for over a 2 year period. I bought all the Weider literature I could get my hands on, and his expensive supplements. I did make some gains, but got discouraged with all of the hours training. I never received the gains promised by the magazines and supplement adds. Anyway I put up the weights and just concentrated on cardiovascular fitness.
I stumbled onto this website by accident about 4 months ago. I looked around and couldn't believe what I read. People getting great results with 1 set per lift! Only exercising the same body part every 7 days?! It sounded absolutely ridiculous to me. Until I tried it!
After reading countless articles on the site I decided to give lifting another try. I wrote up an exercise schedule that included both nautilus and free weight lifts; varying my workouts so that no body part was exercised more than once a week.
I've been at it for about 3 months, and all I can say is WOW!!! I've gained more size in 3 months than I did in 2 years of over training. I only wish that I took some before pictures. My wife says that she defiantly sees the results. I'm also happy to say that my suits and dress shirts are getting tight, not in the gut, but in the shoulders and chest! The great thing about this is that I only spend about 1/2 in the gym per workout. Let me make one thing very clear; I work very hard during that 1/2 hour. I perform each exercise to complete failure. When I'm done with a set I literally can't move the body part I'm working for a couple of seconds. I should also tell you that I don't use any supplements. I'm not saying that they have no merit; just that right now I'm getting great gains by just eating a balanced diet.
The thing I can't understand is why the publication of misinformation continues? I picked up a popular muscle mag the other day and was amazed to see some of the same over training recommendations I saw 10 years ago! No wonder I wasn't making any significant gains back then I can't believe the over training I put my body through. The sad thing is that every day in the gym I see guys doing the same stupid things I did 10 years ago. Overtraining.
Anyway Gunnar, I guess what I'm trying to say (in long winded fashion) is that your methods, and others on this web site really work. I appreciate the time you take to educate me and others. Thank you.

Hi!! Just wanted to say great website and a lighthouse to a lost weightlifter. I am a hardgainer (or overtrainer) who may have finally found his weightlifting saviours!
I have started the HIT program a couple of weeks ago , and am going to give it 100%. I have lost my training partner already because he is not sore enough the next day , and many of my friends are looking at my slow twenty reps with big smirks on their faces. So, wish me luck and keep on pumping out the HIT way!!
Jase
Just want to say thanks for your website. HIT sounds great and I'm trying it.

How's It Goin', Eh?
First of all I'd like to say that you have a real top-notch and informative web site!! You can tell when something is a labour of love by the amount of work put into the effort, which may be a common thread with HIT. It's really amazing what the gang at Cyberpump has been able to achieve and all of you deserve credit for this.
I have been attempting to adopt the HIT style for a couple of months now as my routine evolves. I've only been lifting for 4-5 months now but am happy with the results so far. I am trying to find a knowledgeable trainer to help me determine if I'm "going the distance", and to help out with form.
It would be very helpful if the Cyberpump site could list trainers in different areas that know their stuff. It seems that most gyms I talk to have a trainer that can help, but they each ask for a minimum of 6 sessions @$300 (CDN), which makes it kinda tough to shop around. They all seem to have heard of Mike Mentzer, and have various opinions on the subject, but few have heard of Cyberpump. So without this common ground I feel kinda reluctant to part with my hard earned $$. BTW, I work out at home and havealready invested plenty as a result and am not really interested in competitive bodybuilding. I would prefer to continue this and periodically have a session with a trainer. I'll keep looking around anyway. If anyonethere knows someone that knows someone, let me know. I'm just west of Toronto.
